Vocalics: a form of nonverbal communication that uses the voice. People use different tones of voice to portray the different emotions they are feeling at that time. To do this people can use different pitches, tones, and volume. For example, if somebody speaks quietly and monotone voice can indicate they are nervous around you. On the other hand, if somebody speaks loudly, with fluctuations, and without hesitation it can show they are feeling confident (DeFleur, Kearney, Plax, & DeFleur, 2005).
