Public Address/Public Speaking

Public Address/Public Speaking: Public address is the transmission of a message from usually one person to a moderate sized group; most often in a large room or auditorium and with the help of a microphone or some other device to make the speaker’s voice audible to everyone in the room. It can be considered a small-scale form of mass communication, in the sense that one individual or at most, a few individuals, are sending a verbal message to a large amount of people at once (DeFleur, Kearney, Plax, & DeFleur, 2005).

Examples of public address/speaking can include:

-Schools and businesses (over what is known as the PA system, usually reserved for important messages or emergencies)

 -Town hall meetings

 -Other special presentations or speeches
